It's Christmas time, which means that families will soon gather around the table and enjoy a variety of dishes. As a rule, dishes prepared for major holidays are characterized by their nutritional value, fat content, and caloric content. This can sometimes cause problems with the digestive system.
However, there are many Christmas dishes that not only do not overload the body's digestive system, but even benefit it, writes Illscience.
Cholesterol is a substance similar in structure to fat and is found in most tissues of the human body. High cholesterol levels lead to heart problems and can cause stroke. Nevertheless, the human body cannot do without cholesterol, as it is actively involved in building cells and producing hormones.
Avinash Hari Narayanan, MD, clinical director of the London Medical Laboratory, said in an interview with the above-mentioned publication that some components of a traditional Christmas dinner can stimulate cholesterol reduction. Among these foods Narayanan names: chicken breast, turkey, salmon, red and Brussels sprouts. According to him, reasonable consumption of these foods can reduce cholesterol levels.
Moreover, even baked potatoes can be beneficial, the doctor says, but only if you use olive oil, which is good for the heart. If you use goose fat or lard, then such a dish will not make anyone feel better.
Unfortunately, there are no healthy traditional Christmas dessert recipes. However, they can easily be replaced with baked apples, pears, or berries. Fruits will lower cholesterol levels, and berries are excellent antioxidants.
According to one study, the average person consumes about 5373 calories on Christmas Day, which is almost three times the normal amount. Therefore, when you sit down to a festive table and want to try every dish, you should think about the size of their portions.
In addition, the amount of alcohol consumed on Christmas Day increases dramatically. Thus, according to the survey, two-thirds of people who drink alcohol on this holiday exceed the normal amount. And in combination with a large amount of food, this can cause a bad reaction in the body.
But on the other hand, Christmas is one of our favorite holidays. That's why. If a person leads a fairly active lifestyle and eats right throughout the year, there should be no problems from one day of relaxing their regimen.
