How to make mackerel pate: a budget appetizer

Pate is one of the most versatile appetizers. You can choose a wide variety of products for the base: mushrooms, liver or chicken fillet. However, if you want to get a hearty and at the same time budget-friendly dish, go for mackerel.

The idea of making a budget mackerel pate was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Mariana (miriam_ester).

Ingredients:

  • hot smoked mackerel (whole) - 400-500 g
  • cream cheese - 100 g
  • lemon - 1 pc
  • parsley - 5-6 sprigs
  • mustard, not too spicy - 2 tsp
  • ground pepper

For serving:

  • radish
  • crisp bread
  • boiled potatoes or fresh bread

Method of preparation:

1. Cut off the head of the mackerel. Clean the skin and carefully remove all the bones.

2. Squeeze half a lemon and grate zest.

3. Finely chop the parsley.

4. Mash the fillet with a fork and stir in the rest of the ingredients.

5. Add mustard and lemon juice to your own taste.

6. Thinly sliced radish perfectly complements the taste of mackerel.
