How to cook hake so that it is not greasy: a simple idea
Hake is a fish with a lot of meat. It is often sold in frozen form. Its traditional cooking method is frying in batter. However, in this form, the product is quite dry. Therefore, for juiciness, you need to add vegetable roast. Namely, beet one.
The idea of cooking juicy hake with beets was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Daryna (daryna_h_h).
Ingredients:
- frozen hake - 1 kg
- onion - 1 pc.
- carrot - 1 pc.
- beetroot - 1 pc.
- natural spices for fish (coriander, ginger, garlic, onion, black pepper, rosemary and marjoram) - 2 tsp.
- tomatoes in their own juice (can be replaced with tomato paste + fresh tomatoes, tomato juice) - 400 ml
- flour
- salt - to taste
- parsley or dill - to taste
Cooking method:
1. Defrost the fish, cut it into pieces, and remove the insides. Usually hake is sold already cleaned, so there will be no problems with this.
2. Add spices.
3. Cut the onion in half and chop into half rings.
4. Put in a frying pan heated with oil and fry until transparent.
5. Grate the carrots on a coarse grater and add to the onions. Fry for another 1-2 minutes.
6. Do the same with beets. Vegetables absorb oil well, so don't be afraid to add more if necessary.
7. Add a can of tomatoes in their own juice and 1/2 tsp salt to the roast. Cover and simmer at low temperature for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.
8. Meanwhile, roll the fish in flour and fry on both sides for 5-7 minutes until cooked.
9. Add the roast, cover with vegetables and leave under the lid for 5 minutes.
10. If desired, add herbs (dill, parsley) and lemon slices. Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, or just like this.
11. If you want a completely dietary dish, just don't fry the fish but let it simmer under the lid for 10-15 minutes.
