Barley is one of the most budget-friendly and yet delicious cereals that can be successfully cooked with meat, mushrooms, stew, and even potatoes.
Ukrainian TV presenter Kostiantyn Hrubych shared a delicious recipe for barley with potatoes on his YouTube channel.
Ingredients:
- barley - 1 cup
- onion - 2-3 pcs.
- potatoes - 2-3 pcs. (optionally, you can add celery root)
- oil (for frying)
- salt, pepper
Method of preparation:
1. Soak barley for several hours in advance. Then put it on the fire to cook. Add salt.
2. Meanwhile, dice onion and grate potatoes on a coarse grater.
3. First fry the onion until soft, then add the potatoes. If desired, grate 1 clove of garlic. Also add pepper and salt.
4. When the barley is 90% done, mix it with the potatoes. Put the groats on top of the potatoes. Leave to simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.
