It is a mistake to assume that the homes of high-ranking officials do not have power outages, as in the rest of the country. First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska said that the presidential family's home was also in the blackout zone, so they had to buy an electric generator.

During an interview with TSN, she recalled with a smile how she and her children sat by candlelight after the first Russian shelling of the power system. The first lady explained that now she has a generator at home during blackouts, although it is uncomfortable because of the volume.

"Of course it does, we live in the same power system. This year it's a little easier for me, because the generator is working. We've got it up and running. It's loud, but it saves us. But, for example, when there was the first shelling of our power system, when we all remembered what life by candlelight was like, my children and I had romantic evenings. I even liked it sometimes. We had candlelit dinners, read books, played board games. Whenever possible, we went to bed early," the first lady admitted.

Olena Zelenska added that she was looking forward to life returning to normal without blackouts, shelling, and war.

"We all live in the same realities. And that's why we all want everything to change back to normal life, a normal sense of life, so that children don't have to worry that tomorrow their lives will change again in some way. We want them to develop in peace, go to school, study and turn on the lights whenever they want," she continued.

In particular, the first lady admitted that she is trying to show Ukrainians by example that during an air raid, they should go down to the shelter even if they do not feel like it. She admitted that every time she gathers her children and pets and goes to a bomb shelter, but it greatly affects her health throughout the next day.

"I am sure that it is very necessary to go down to the shelter. I go down at night every time, take my children, have to wake them up, take my dogs, cat, drag them to the basement. But at the same time, I realize that I am lucky to be able to go down to the basement in my house and imagine how people go to the subway at this time. And, unfortunately, it's very uncomfortable, it's exhausting. We are sleep-deprived in the morning, our children have to go to school, but it saves lives. And time after time, when we see and count the victims after the next shelling, we see that if there was a shelter, if people could go down, they would be saved," Olena Zelenska said.
