Kelin Georgescu is a Romanian pro-Russian politician.
Brief biographyKelin Georgescu was born on March 26, 1962 in Bucharest.
In 2013-2015 he worked as president of the European Research Center of the Club of Rome.
In 2015-2016, he was Director of the UN Global Sustainable Development Index Institute in Geneva and Vaduca.
Presidential Election 2024Kelin Georgescu ran in the 2024 presidential elections in Romania. Among other candidates, he was distinguished by his outspoken pro-Russian stance. He criticized the existence of NATO as well as the European Union.
It is known that Georgescu is friends with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, and also supported Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
He was also in favor of annexing Ukraine's Chernivtsi region, incorporating it into Romania.
In the first round of the presidential election, Georgescu emerged as a surprise leader, but the results of the vote were overturned by Romania's Constitutional Court, as evidence was found that the results may have been rigged through outside interference (most likely Russian) and manipulation.
In particular, the social network TikTok was massively used to publicize Georgescu.
On December 5, the Prosecutor General's Office of Romania announced that it had launched an investigation into Russian interference in the presidential election.
