The U.S. Government Accountability Office has conducted an audit of financial and military assistance to Ukraine. Following its work, the agency recommended that the US government introduce a process to track funding more effectively.

In particular, the Government Accountability Office made specific recommendations to the Pentagon regarding the provision of weapons to Ukraine. This is stated in a report published on the website of the US Government Accountability Office.

The document states that in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, four US agencies allocated $44.1 billion in additional funding and other funds to meet Ukraine's economic and humanitarian needs. The Government Accountability Office emphasized that the United States does not have a systematic, comprehensive approach to specifically tracking this funding.

In this regard, the auditors recommended that the U.S. government better track funding related to the war in Ukraine.

The Government Accountability Office also found that the United States has not used a systematic approach to categorize and separately track the status of foreign aid, especially in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The auditors believe that the United States has faced problems in providing the status of this foreign aid.

"Without such separate tracking, the government cannot provide timely information on the status of foreign assistance that can be used to understand the situation and make decisions about future funding," the report says.

In addition, the auditors paid special attention to the study of military aid. The agency noted that the report covers security assistance provided under two programs: the Presidential Drawdown Authority and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.

The report states that the Pentagon has created new organizations to deliver an unprecedented amount of defense products to Ukraine in a short time. At the same time, the audit revealed that the US Department of Defense does not have specific guidelines for tracking arms shipments, and delivery data may be inaccurate. In this regard, the auditors recommended that the Pentagon strengthen control over arms deliveries to ensure the tracking and proper use of US-made weapons in Ukraine.

Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that US President Joe Biden is in no hurry to supply weapons to Ukraine because he is afraid of a Russian nuclear strike.

As reported, Ukraine may arm and train new combat brigades to launch a counteroffensive this year. However, this will be possible if the situation at the front remains stable.
