"Spreading propaganda in the West": Russia's OG champion made ridiculous comments on Russia's flag being banned

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is deliberately imposing sanctions on Russian athletes to "make a split in society" rather than reacting to Russia's shameful war against Ukraine. At the same time, Western officials are "spreading propaganda in the West" to justify the ban on the symbols of the aggressor country.

Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova expressed this absurd idea in an interview with the "Match TV" propaganda channel. The State Duma deputy added that "people are becoming more patriotic" in Russia in response to the actions of the IOC and international federations.

"These actions extend to the whole country, they are just trying to neutralize us. The Olympics have specific agenda. Why do more and more Russians do not accept the neutral status? Because more and more are starting to ask themselves: how can this be? There are more and more patriots now and the IOC realizes this. Because of this they want to drive us into this neutrality, to make a split in society. It is somehow deliberately done by those people who come up with this propaganda in the West. It will be relevant if our athletes perform with our flag, anthem and other attributes," Zhurova said.

Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, while echoing the narratives of Kremlin propaganda, advocated the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games, calling it a step toward peace.
