Ukrainian world chess champion who changed his citizenship died suddenly at the age of 46
The famous grandmaster Vadim Malakhatko died suddenly at the age of 46, according to the Chess Federation of Ukraine. Malakhatko was a pupil of the Kyiv chess school GSO "Avangard". At one time he studied at the Metropolitan Institute of Physical Education.
In 2000, as a member of the Ukrainian team he became a bronze medalist of the 40th Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, and in 2001 - world champion.
In 2006, Vadim became European vice-champion in rapid chess. In 2007 he changed his citizenship to Belgian.
He was also a winner and medalist in a number of international and national tournaments, an organizer, coach and honored master of sports.
