Ukraine's vice-champion in football, who volunteered for the army, dies in the war against the Russian occupiers
Oleksandr Honchar, a former defender of the Boryspil-based football club Borysfen, was killed in the war with the Russian occupiers. At the age of 43, the life of the hero with the call sign Dzhmil (Bumblebee) was cut short forever in the Zaporizhzhia sector.
In March 2023, Oleksandr joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine without hesitation. He was a soldier of a Separate Automobile Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Honchar was born in the village of Shchaslyve (Boryspil district). He was a pupil of Boryspil football. His first professional club was Borysfen, for which he made his debut in 1997 as a first-team player.
Then there were other teams: Prykarpattia, Vorskla, Metalist, Zorya, Nyva. He became a silver medalist of the First League of Ukraine twice: 2002/2003, 2005/2006.
After completing his sports career, he began to engage in private entrepreneurial activity, gathering reliable, responsible people around him.
Oleksandr will be burried by his wife, son and daughter. The funeral ceremony for the fallen hero will take place on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Knyshev Memorial Park Complex in Boryspil.
In August 2020, Honchar was in the starting lineup for the famous match against Dynamo Kyiv. Then Borysfen won with a score of 2:0.
