In summer, everything looks cleaner and fresher. It's all thanks to the fresh greenery that blooms around. But at the same time, the dry weather causes more dust and the heat causes more stains, so some items and rooms need more attention.

Cleaning experts advise to increase the frequency of care for some areas and things in the summer season. OBOZ.UA has collected their recommendations.

Kitchens

The kitchen is one of the dirtiest places in the house, especially in terms of germs. And in warm weather, they begin to multiply actively. Wet areas, such as the area around the sink, pose the greatest danger. Microorganisms also grow rapidly in joints, seams, and on countertops. From there, the germs quickly get on the switches and door handles through the hands. That's why the kitchen needs to be disinfected more often in the summer.

Household appliances

Summer heat can lead to mold growth in your household appliances (dishwashers, washing machines, and garbage disposals). It will make itself felt with a specific odor. To get rid of the problem, you will need baking soda and vinegar. So, to treat your washing machine, add vinegar to the drum and baking soda to the powder tray, and then run a hot wash without clothes.

Bed linen and towels

In the summer, we sweat more, wash more often, and, accordingly, change bedding and use towels more often. This can create favorable conditions for the development of bacteria and dust mites in textiles. To get rid of them, wash home textiles that come into contact with your body at least once a week. But you can do it more often. If you wash your clothes frequently, it will be enough to treat them with cool water. It is better to dry your clothes outdoors in the summer.

Clothes

Summer sweating, of course, affects clothes. But don't rush to throw a damp T-shirt into the laundry basket right away. Let it dry first. Fresh sweat is a breeding ground for microorganisms.

Summer can also bring more dirt and grease, especially in the form of grass and sunscreen stains. To clean your clothes, use a solution of two parts water and one part white vinegar and soak your clothes in it for 15 minutes before washing. If you have sunscreen stains on your clothes, blot them with a dry cloth and then apply cornmeal, let it soak for 30 minutes, and then remove the flour and wash the garment.

Walls

Summer humidity can cause mold to grow throughout your home. To prevent mold from forming on the walls, ventilate the room regularly. Also, wipe the walls with vinegar and hot water at least once a month.

Ventilation and air conditioning filters and openings

In summer, your air conditioner works especially hard. That's why it's important to have it serviced before the season starts. For example, replace its filter. Dirt can settle on it, and microorganisms can grow there. And dust, dirt, and animal hair that accumulate on the filter can reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner and increase the energy consumption of the device.

Do not forget about all the ventilation holes in the house. They will collect dust and dirt more strongly, which has a bad effect on the air quality in the house. If you find any dust or debris around the vents, vacuum it away. Clean the grilles from time to time with hot soapy water.

Covers and cushions for garden furniture

Sitting outdoors is a great way to enjoy the summer season. However, during the summer months, outdoor furniture and cushions can collect dust, pollen, and mold spores. To prevent the accumulation of these allergens, vacuum or brush the textile parts regularly and wash them according to the instructions. Also, clean your pillows and covers immediately if you get a food or drink stain on them. If you leave the stain, it can bake in the sun and become very difficult to remove.

Bathrooms

Just like the kitchen, the bathroom accumulates a lot of dirt. And in the summer, the load on the shower and plumbing increases. Since this is a wet area, the development of bacteria here is also quite rapid. Therefore, clean these surfaces more often with a white vinegar solution or special disinfectants. Take care of the shower curtain separately. It often gets stained with mold or mildew. To avoid them, wash the curtain at least once a month.

Shoes

Feet also sweat more in the summer, and this affects the condition of your shoes. To prevent odor and bacterial growth, change the shoes you wear to keep them ventilated and clean them regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. It's also a good idea to use inserts that absorb moisture and odors, such as baking soda bags. Just leave them inside your sneakers or sandals overnight.

Toys

Since children spend more time at home in the summer, they play with toys more often. Check the label to see which ones are dishwasher safe. Hand wash rubber toys and wash soft toys using a gentle hypoallergenic detergent. Dry such treasures of your child in the open air.
