Kanchelskis assessed the prospects of football in Russia

Former Russian national footballer Andrey Kanchelskis expressed confidence that teams from the aggressor country will not participate in international tournaments for at least another 10 years. In this regard, the former Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester United player called for the return of the Russian championship to the spring-fall system.

Kanchelskis said this in an interview with Metaratings.ru. According to him, it is impossible to hold football matches in Russia in early spring and late fall due to difficult weather conditions, and now there is no need to synchronize the calendar with the European one.

"I have long said that this makes sense as soon as we are suspended from the European Cups. We need to return to the spring-fall schedule, and it's right. The fan should enjoy the game. We rest in the summer and play in minus 15 in the winter. I had no enthusiasm when I played in such weather. I wanted it to be over as soon as possible and go home. Football is the most traumatic sport, and I don't want the players to get injured. We won't participate in European competitions for another 10 years, so we need to switch to spring and fall seasons, one hundred percent," Kanchelskis said.

Earlier, the European Football Union (UEFA) did not include the Russian national team in the draw for the new League of Nations. The State Duma called this decision outrageous.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov demanded to "punish Ukraine and Israel" for the wars, saying that "people are dying."
