When you need to decide what material to use for your kitchen sink, there is no better choice than stainless steel. It has a spectacular look, is resistant to corrosion, and is easy to clean.

However, experts do not advise cleaning such sinks with abrasives to avoid leaving scratches on the surface. OBOZ.UA tells you how to do it without using household chemicals but with the help of natural products.

Baking soda

If the stains on the sink need to be cleaned with an abrasive, use baking soda. It is mild enough to clean the steel surface without scratching it. Mix baking soda and water to make a paste. Apply it to the surface of the stainless steel sink and gently rub it with a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Do not press hard. You can also leave the paste on for 10-15 minutes to soften the stain.

Vinegar

This remedy is especially suitable for those who have hard water coming out of the tap: the lime stains that form because of this are very noticeable on the steel surface. To get rid of them, mix equal parts of filtered water and white vinegar, spray the solution on the surface of the sink and leave it for 5-10 minutes. During this time, the vinegar will eat away at the lime. All you have to do is wipe the treated area with a damp cloth to remove dirt and restore shine.

Lemon and salt

To get rid of limescale on a steel sink, cut a lemon in half and sprinkle salt on the slice. It is better to take extra salt: due to the spherical shape of the crystals, it will not scratch the surface. Use this slice to lightly rub the stained areas. The acidity of the lemon helps dissolve dirt, and the salt provides effective cleaning. Finally, rinse the sink and wipe it dry with a soft cloth.

Carbonated water

Carbonated drinks are great for cleaning steel surfaces. Simply add the right amount of liquid to a spray bottle, spray the surface, and then rinse. The acids in the drink will break down lime and other contaminants, and the carbon dioxide bubbles will enhance their effect. Be sure to use sugar-free drinks for such cleaning as they won't leave a sticky residue even if you don't rinse off the liquid well.

Alcohol

To clean stainless steel, prepare a solution of medical or isopropyl alcohol and water in equal parts. Spray the surface you want to clean, leave the solution on for a few minutes, and then wipe the sink with a microfiber cloth. This product not only dissolves grease but also disinfects the sink.

Dishwashing detergent

Another easy method to clean your stainless steel sink is to rinse it after use with the same dishwashing detergent you use to clean your dishes. You can even use the foam that remains on the sponge. It will cope well with all the dirt typical for sinks and will not leave scratches if you do not rub the surface with the rough side of the sponge.
