A plane makes an emergency landing in the United States because of an adult diaper: it was mistaken for a bomb. Photo
An adult diaper caused quite a stir on board an airplane flying from Panama City to Tampa, Florida, USA. After an hour-long flight, the crew and passengers of the Copa Airlines flight were forced to return to the departure point to investigate the bomb threat.
After receiving information about a possible explosive device, the plane made an emergency landing in Panama City. There, it was diverted to an isolated area, after which all 144 passengers were evacuated and a team of explosives experts thoroughly examined the aircraft.
Airport security conducted a comprehensive inspection of the plane and found that the suspected bomb was actually an adult diaper that had been simply wrapped in a black bag.
The press service of the Panamanian National Police wrote on its page on X (a social network formerly known as Twitter): "After being notified of a foreign object on board the plane, the special forces activated the emergency protocol, and during the inspection it turned out to be a disposable adult diaper."
Jose Castro, head of the airport's security team, also commented on the incident. He said that the "suspicious object" was taken to a secure runway, where it was thoroughly examined by police dog handlers and special forces, who found out that it was a regular diaper.
