The last month of fall marks the true end of the season. Gardeners and vegetable growers are finishing up work on warming plants and preparing for the long winter.
However, if the weather is favorable and the first two weeks of November are quite warm, you can finally do some gardening. OBOZ.UA publishes a sowing calendar for November 2023 and tells you what else you can do before the cold weather.
What you can do in the garden in November
If there were no serious frosts in early November and the ground is not frozen, you can start planting bulbous spring flowers that will delight you with bright early blooms next season.
Experts also recommend planting garlic and onions for the winter.
Gardeners should start planting and fertilizing conifers, while planting fruit trees should be postponed until spring. Of course, preventive pest control measures should not be neglected.
Moon phases in November 2023
The sowing calendar is drawn up taking into account the phases of the moon, that is, the periodic change in the appearance of the sunlit part of the moon in the sky.
In November, there will be the following phases of the Moon:
- November 1-12 - the waning moon;
- November 13 - new moon;
- November 14-26 - the growing Moon;
- November 27 - full moon;
- November 28-30 - the waning moon.

The following dates will be favorable for gardening in November: November 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 21, 22, 26, 30.
Unfavorable days are November 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 20, 27.
When to plant winter garlic and onions
Experts advise planting onions on November 10 and 11.
Onions will sprout well if planted on November 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 21-26, 30.
Favorable days for planting winter garlic are November 10 and 11.
Leeks on the windowsill should be planted on November 3, 4, 10, 11, 21, 22, 26, 30.
When to plant herbs
To have access to fresh herbs in winter, you can start sowing them in containers on the windowsill as early as November.
It is best to choose the following dates:
- November 10, 11, 17, 18, 21-26 for lettuce;
- for spinach - November 10, 11, 21-25;
- for arugula - November 3, 4, 14, 21-25, 30;
- dill and fennel can be planted on November 17, 18, 26;
- parsley, cilantro, celery will sprout well if planted on November 21 or 22;
- basil will yield abundantly if planted on November 7-9, 14, 21-25;
When to carry out pest control measures
In November, don't forget to take protective measures to protect plants and trees from pests. Choose one of the following dates: November 1, 2, 5-9, 28, 29.
