When will Xi and Zelenskyy hold talks

In a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Chinese President Xi Jinping said he was ready to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, he will do so not immediately, but at the right time.

This was reported by the French newspaper le Parisien, citing a diplomat who was present at the meeting between the two leaders in Beijing. The same source noted that Macron urged Xi not to supply Russia with weapons that could harm Ukraine.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed the same position. She said that China would face a retaliatory reaction from the West if it succumbs to Putin's persuasion.

"We expect that China will not supply military equipment directly or indirectly to Russia. New weapons for the aggressor would be a violation of international law and would cause significant damage to our relations," the statement said.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, French Leader Macron, on a visit to Beijing, raised the issue of Russia's aggression in Ukraine with his Chinese counterpart Xi. Macron called on the Chinese leadership to "bring the Kremlin to its senses" and "bring everyone" to the negotiating table.

In this dialogue, Xi Jinping himself stated the need for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, an escalation of hostilities should not be allowed.

"China is ready to work with France to urge the international community to maintain rationality and restraint to avoid actions that will further aggravate or spiral out of control the Ukrainian crisis," he stressed.
