Which cats and dogs don't cause allergies: breeds that are suitable for everyone

Allergies are a significant reason to reconsider the idea of having a pet. There is a considerable risk of severe consequences during an allergic reaction. The allergen can be not only cat or dog hair but also saliva, skin, or urine.

Hypoallergenic dogs

Doctors advise people with allergies who want to get a dog to pay attention to small breeds, as well as dogs that shed little and do not salivate. The list of such breeds includes:

Hypoallergenic cats

To choose a cat that will not cause severe allergies, focus on the quality of the coat. Here are the criteria:

Bald cats, such as Sphynxes, Ukrainian Levkoi, Elf, etc., are characterized by the absence of hair. All these breeds require careful grooming because they have unprotected sensitive skin. They need to be bathed, and dressed, and their ears cleaned.

Curly-haired cats, such as Devon Rex and Cornish Rex, do not shed as much as regular cats, and their fur is somewhat harder to the touch.

Cats without an undercoat, such as Oriental, Balinese, and Javanese cats, have only the main coat and no undercoat. Because of this, they shed much less.

What to do to reduce allergy symptoms

Since there are no 100% hypoallergenic cats and dogs, doctors advise those who decide to get an animal despite their tendency to have reactions to take additional measures to protect themselves. For example, the room should be frequently and thoroughly ventilated. You should also do wet cleaning more often. Combing the animal also helps. This task can be delegated to a professional groomer who will perform an express shedding in a special way.

Also, people prone to allergies should not allow animals in their beds or on the sofa. You will also have to take good care of your pet's bowls and litter box. And be sure to wash your hands every time you come into contact with the animal or its things.
