The best place to plant winter onions

Winter onions can be planted from early October to mid-November, the main thing is to do it 10-14 days before the onset of stable frosts. Although this is an unpretentious crop, you need to choose the right place to grow it to get a bountiful harvest.

OBOZ.UA has found effective tips that will help to cope with this. The owners should take into account the depletion of the soil after the previous seedlings to prevent the emergence of diseases and pests.

Choose a well-lit, wind-protected area with loose and fertile soil. Drained humus-sandy or humus-loamy soils are good.

It is better to plant winter onions in an area where cauliflower and white cabbage, legumes, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, herbs, and tomatoes have grown. But avoid places where beets, celery, carrots, and radishes were planted. These root crops deplete the soil and you won't be able to get a bountiful harvest next season.

Also, do not plant the crop in the area where garlic and onions were planted.

Make beds 3-8 centimeters deep, but it all depends on the size of the fruit. You can use wood ash, organic waste, or humus for fertilization. Spread the mixture into the beds before planting.

Also mulch the area so that severe frosts do not damage the crop. Cover the ground with dry leaves, straw, sawdust, or pine needles.
