To grow a lot of zucchini and harvest early, take good care of your seedlings

Zucchini is not considered a difficult garden crop to germinate. However, they should be germinated using the seedling method if you want to get an early harvest of these vegetables.

OBOZ.UA found out how to do it correctly and when to plant young plants in the open ground from gardening experts. Here are the tips they gave.

Plant according to the lunar calendar

Gardening experts say that planting according to the lunar calendar gives good results. Plants germinate quickly and take root well.

In March, good days for sowing seedlings will be 1-6, 13, 14, 17-19, and 26-31. Specifically for zucchini, the best dates are March 13-19.

In April, the general good dates for sowing seedlings are the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 21st-23rd, and 25th-30th. And zucchini will be optimally planted in the ground on the 10-15th.

Sow the seeds correctly

Since zucchini seeds have a very hard shell, experts recommend soaking them before sowing. To do this, you need to put them in warm water for 3 hours. This is especially true for seeds that you have collected yourself, rather than purchased ready-made.

Zucchini love a light substrate, which consists of 2 parts peat and 1 part sand. It can be improved with a small amount of humus and ash. It is best to put two seeds in a separate cup so that you can leave a stronger sprout.

If you want to germinate zucchini in a large box, sow the seeds in 3 cm deep furrows and place the seeds about 10 cm apart. In any case, cover the container with foil to create a greenhouse effect and do not remove it until the first leaves appear - about 3-5 days under normal conditions. Zucchini seedlings should be watered every 4-5 days until they are planted outdoors.

When zucchini is transferred to the garden

Young plants need about 25 days to fully grow and become stronger. It is important not to keep the zucchini for too long, because if the root system of the seedlings grows too much, you will most likely damage it when transplanting, which will have a bad effect on the condition of the entire plant and the harvest.
