There are several life hacks for planting tulips in spring

Bright tulips are one of the main symbols of spring. In order for them to bloom lush and on time, you need to take care of planting them properly in advance. You also need to know how to process tulip bulbs.

OBOZREVATEL talks about the intricacies of planting these flowers. Read on to find out whether you can put the bulbs in the ground in March and what substance will help make the flowering lush.

Spring planting of tulips

As a rule, the bulbs of these flowers are planted in the first half of fall. Then they have time to take root and wake up with the first warmth in the spring and begin to bloom early. However, experienced growers say that tulips can be planted in March. In this case, if they do bloom, it will be quite late. Nevertheless, with a high degree of probability, the flowers will appear next year.

If you decide to give it a try, take your time. The third decade of March can be a more or less suitable time for planting flowers, although it is better to wait until April. In any case, the soil should warm up to about 10 degrees Celsius to a depth of 10 centimeters. Otherwise, the plant is likely to freeze.

How to plant tulips in spring

These flowers like direct sunlight, so do not plant them in the shade. It is also important to loosen the soil in which the tulip grows. Otherwise, it may have a crooked stem and a narrow flower.

The hole for planting the bulb should be about 5-10 centimeters deep. The distance between the bulbs should also be 10 centimeters. First, you need to pour a little water into the hole to moisten the soil, and you also need to pour up to 3 centimeters of river sand on its bottom: this will create drainage for the plant's roots. After that, it's time to put the bulb in the ground. It should be sprinkled with loosened soil on top. Water the future flower again and level the top layer of soil with a rake.

How to treat bulbs before planting

To protect tulips from infections and pests, it is recommended to treat their bulbs with a weak solution of potassium permanganate before planting. To make it, add a pinch of potassium permanganate powder to a liter of water at room temperature and stir it thoroughly. Then put the bulbs in this solution so that it covers them completely. They should spend about 30 minutes in the solution before spring planting. This should significantly reduce the risk of infection and ensure lush flowering.
