What you can process cabbage leaves with

Cabbage is a capricious crop. It poorly tolerates frost and heat, is demanding to the composition of the soil, does not like overwatering and needs to be fertilized. And when, it would seem, it was possible to choose the right care and adjust the regime of watering, suddenly holes begin to appear on the leaves.

The reason is obvious, but unpleasant - cabbage is gnawed by slugs. In order not to lose the harvest, it is necessary to act immediately. How to treat cabbage so that there would be no holes on the leaves, OBOZREVATEL found out.

When snails attack

There are several telltale signs of a slug attack on your cabbage. The first and most obvious is holes in the leaves. They are very difficult not to notice. The second is traces of mucus, which, when dried, take on a characteristic silvery hue. These traces can be seen either on the cabbage or on the soil nearby.

Slugs not only gnaw the cabbage, they infect the plant with fungal and viral bacteria. As a consequence, first the leaves begin to wither, and then the whole cabbage.

Folk remedies against slugs

You can easily get rid of snails with the help of folk methods. These are tried-and-true tips that are always used by experienced gardeners who do not want to poison their cabbage with chemicals.

Soda Treatment

Ingredients needed:

  • baking soda
  • laundry soap
  • water

Pour 10 liters of water into a container, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 20 grams of pre-grated laundry soap. It is recommended to spray the beds with such a solution in the early morning.

Hot pepper

You can add a little pepper to the slugs' lives. Grind 100 grams of hot pepper and pour a liter of water. The solution should infuse for at least two days. After that, you should strain it and dilute it with cold water in the proportion of ½ cup of peppercorns per 10 liters of water. You can add more soapy water.

Ammonia and mustard

Another strong remedy that will help discourage snails. Take 15 g of mustard and 2 tablespoons of ammonia for 1 liter of water. Mix thoroughly and spray the cabbage in the evening.
