Faucet mixers often accumulate limescale deposits

The faucet on the tap is often plagued by limescale, which is challenging to eliminate permanently due to water particles settling on plumbing fixtures.

While ordinary detergents struggle with limescale, acid-based life hacks can be effective. However, it's crucial to use them carefully to avoid damaging the coating and leaving stains. Read the OBOZREVATEL article on proper faucet cleaning.

What not to clean faucets with

Even common baking soda can harm the faucet, so any homemade recipes should be used cautiously, following the correct proportions.

Avoid cleaning the faucet with the following acids:

  • Acetic
  • Hydrochloric
  • Phosphoric
  • Formic
  • Chloride

Solvents and abrasives are also not recommended, along with hard sponges that can scratch the surface.

Cleaning Rules

Use soft cloths and sponges for faucet cleaning. Opt for gel products without abrasive particles. Do not let the detergent linger on the faucet for an extended period to prevent excessive surface oxidation. Rinse with warm water and wipe with a cloth.

Folk Remedies

Chrome Surfaces

For chrome surfaces, ordinary laundry soap works well. Grate it and pour hot water over it. Add a bit of baking soda and wait until it dissolves. Leave the product on the faucet surface for about an hour, then gently rinse it off with water.

Nickel-Plated Faucet

Experts recommend using finely ground salt. Sprinkle it on a damp cloth and wipe the faucet. Avoid excessive rubbing.

Stainless Steel Faucet

While abrasive products are not recommended, stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with baking soda without causing scratches. Baking soda efficiently removes limescale.

Metal Surfaces

Using a soft cloth, apply a solution of vinegar and water in a 1:2 ratio. Rinse with water and dry with a towel.

Any Surfaces

Clean with citric acid by preparing a solution of acid and water in a 1:4 ratio.
