What flowers to plant in March: the garden will abound in colors until late fall

In March, most gardeners are afraid to plant anything on their land because the weather is still too changeable and the heat is unstable. However, it is time to sow some flowering plants for seedlings in March.

To learn more about such crops, OBOZ.UA asked experienced growers for their advice. And here are the types they advised to pay attention to.

Annual alyssum

This squat flower pleases with flowering right up to the frost. This means that it is a very hardy plant. It is better to grow it through seedlings. Alyssum gives the first shoots in about 10-12 days, and in the open ground, it takes root best in the second half of May.

Petunia

This flower can cover your flower bed with a bright carpet that will not lose its splendor and brightness until the fall. To get petunia seedlings, it is enough to sprinkle its seeds on the surface of a container with soil. They will germinate in a week or two. You can move the flower outdoors as soon as the frost stops. Leave 30-35 cm of space between the plants.

Verbena

The flower pleases with its unpretentiousness in care and the fact that it can bloom until the fall frosts. In March, you need to start germinating verbena seedlings in order to get strong young plants for planting by May. They are dug into the ground at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other as the flowers need space.

Lavender

It takes about two weeks for lavender to sprout the first seedlings. In the open field, it will feel good as soon as the frost stops. However, you need to choose a sunny area for the flower, and germinate it in a well-lit place or under a lamp.

Annual phlox

Sown phlox gives the first shoots very quickly: within one week. However, you will have to wait until the end of April or even May when the soil is already well and deeply warmed up before transferring it to the open ground. Phlox blooms from June until the frost.

Snapdragon 

To germinate these flowers, mix fertile soil with sand and sow the seeds in this mixture. In about 10 days, they will germinate, and in 1.5-2 months, the plant will be ready for transplanting into the open ground. It will bloom until November.

Cleome

In March, you can start growing cleome seeds at home. The time to transfer it to the flowerbed will come around mid-May. The flower needs a significant living space, so the seedlings are placed at a distance of 50 cm from each other.
