The orange peel and vinegar remedy is universal

The trend for eco-friendly cleaning products is gaining momentum. Soda, vinegar, and laundry soap remain at the top of the list. However, sometimes unexpected ingredients come across, such as orange and tangerine peels.

According to The Kitchn, citrus peels can be used to make a universal cleaning product that can be used to wipe work surfaces, mop floors, and even clean plumbing. It will remove not only dirt but also unpleasant odors.

How to make a cleaning agent based on orange peels:

  • Take a small glass jar with a lid and fill it with orange and tangerine peels. Do not try to fill the container tightly, let the peels fall loosely.
  • Pour 9% white vinegar into the jar so that it covers the peels and close the lid.
  • Leave the product in a cool, dark place for two weeks.
  • After the product has infused, strain it, throw the peels away, and use the resulting liquid.

This liquid can be used in concentrated form to clean plumbing fixtures or tiles. Work surfaces and floors should be wiped with a 1:1 water solution. This solution can also be used as a spray by pouring it into a spray bottle.

In addition to this remedy, orange peels can be used to make refreshing tablets for a household waste shredder. To do this, place the peels in a muffin tin, cover with water, and freeze. If you notice an unpleasant odor coming out of your shredder, simply drop the tablet in and turn it on. The ice will help physically clean the walls of the appliance, and the peel will remove the unpleasant odor.
