How long can you store uncorked wine

Opened wine not only loses its flavor and aroma but also begins to sour. In most cases, it takes a few days for the drink to go bad, but sometimes it can happen even in a few hours.

OBOZREVATEL figured out how to store uncorked wine and how long it can be kept in the fridge. It's important to remember that the oxidation process begins as soon as air gets into the uncorked bottle

Three ways to store open wine

First method

Opened wine should be closed immediately after drinking. To do this, experts advise to slightly "crimp" the cork. You can also put wax paper under it to make the cork more secure.

Second method

There is another alternative: you can use a special rubber stopper to seal the wine or use a vacuum system. This will allow you to pump the air out of the open bottle.

Third method

Pour the wine into a bottle that closes tightly. It is better to choose a container that matches the volume of wine that remains.

Does temperature affect storage quality?

According to experts, the temperature directly affects the oxidation process. At a lower temperature, it will be slower. A bottle of wine that has been opened should be stored in the refrigerator.

Shelf life of open wine

Sparkling wine

Sparkling wines should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 1-3 days.

Young white and rosé wines

The shelf life of uncorked young white and rosé wines is somewhat longer: they can be kept in the refrigerator for 5-7 days.

Wines like aged Chardonnay

Experts recommend keeping aged white wines in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. These wines are oxidized during the production stage, and the process is even faster in an uncorked bottle.

Red wines

Aged red wines can be stored at low temperatures for 3-5 days. Fortified wines can be stored for up to 4 weeks, and wines in tetrapaks - no more than 28 days.
