How to reveal roses in a bouquet: a quick and easy life hack

A bouquet of roses is a timeless classic, always an appropriate gift that will not leave anyone indifferent. Wanting the flowers to delight with bright and lush blooms for as long as possible, florists advise choosing roses that are not fully bloomed. However, tightly gathered rows of petals tend to minimize their "wow effect" and reduce the overall size of the composition.

To solve this problem, TikTok blogger Claire Sullivan came up with a rather interesting solution. Given the delicate structure of flowers and their tendency to lose petals, it may seem like a rather risky step at first glance. However, those who have already tried the life hack reassure you that the method works.

How to open roses in a bouquet

First of all, prepare the roses and carefully cut off the ends of the stems.

  1. Disinfect your knife or secateurs.
  2. Immerse the stems in a container of water.
  3. Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle.
  4. During storage, florists advise updating the cut by 0.5-1 cm daily.

Then take the rose and turn it upside down. Gently twist the stem between your palms until you notice the petals separate, then turn it back over.

Next, Claire advises turning the separated petals outward by "pressing on the bottom outer part of each petal." This technique is called reflexive because it allows you to open tightly packed rose petals. You can separate only the first rows of petals or open the entire flower - it's up to you.

An important warning: do not use too much force, do not make sudden movements, do not pull the petals, especially if you are dealing with a rose that has been in water for a long time.

To avoid damaging the flower, gently pinch the bottom of the bud before you start turning it over. If it's still quite tight, you can try the suggested life hack, but if it's sagging or you notice that the petals are starting to fall off, you're probably better off just giving the flower as it is.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL talked about the process of growing roses. If pruned properly, side shoots will form on the bush, making the rose visually more voluminous. Experienced gardeners immediately pay attention to the cut: a clean and milky white cut indicates a healthy branch, and there is no need to cut further. If the cut is brown or spotted, you need to cut again, a little lower, until you are sure that the core is clean. Read more about the rules for pruning different varieties of roses in the article.
