Proper pre-treatment before washing will help completely remove grease from the tablecloth

A tablecloth adds a finishing touch to the kitchen table, providing a polished appearance. However, it often accumulates stains from food and drinks, with grease being one of the most challenging to remove. While regular washing at high temperatures with a lot of detergent may seem like an option, it can quickly damage the tablecloth. It's advisable to explore alternative methods for removing grease from the fabric.

OBOZREVATEL shares insights into household tools that can effectively address this issue and how to use them correctly.

Dishwashing liquid

Dishwashing liquids and gels are designed to dissolve grease, making them effective for fabrics. Simply apply a drop of the product to the stained area, gently rub it in with your fingers or a cotton pad, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Afterward, rinse the item and wash it in the machine as usual.

You can also soak the entire tablecloth in a hot solution of dishwashing liquid. A tablespoon of detergent in a bowl of water should be sufficient to remove grease in an hour.

Gasoline

Gasoline, being an effective solvent, can be used in moderation. Apply a few drops of the substance to a cotton pad or napkin, treat the stain, and after 10 minutes, wash the tablecloth as usual. Ensure proper ventilation when using gasoline, and avoid working with it near open flames.

Baking soda

Enhance the degreasing properties of your detergent by adding two tablespoons of baking soda before washing. Alternatively, sprinkle baking soda directly on a fresh greasy stain to absorb the grease before it penetrates the fabric fibers.

Citric acid

A solution of citric acid effectively combats grease in textiles. Dilute 2 grams of dry citric acid in a glass of water. For older and stubborn stains, prepare an alcohol solution with 10 parts alcohol to 1 part acid. Apply the solution generously to the stain, let it sit for 10-15 minutes, and then wash the tablecloth.

Ammonia

Ammonia is effective even against old stains. Prepare a mixture with:

  • 0.5 tablespoon of ammonia
  • 1 tablespoon of glycerin
  • 1 tablespoon of water

Mix these substances until smooth and treat the grease stain. Alternatively, use a simple aqueous solution of ammonia in a 1:1 ratio, then wash the tablecloth.
