How to clean the blinds

Blinds are a durable and reliable investment in the interior that will allow you to adjust the lighting level and create a cozy atmosphere in the room. Colette Toman, an interior designer at Make My Blinds, shared step-by-step instructions for cleaning the slats. Dishwashing liquid, a microfiber cloth, and warm water will come in handy.

Step 1

Blinds are a rather delicate structure that can be easily damaged. Therefore, when choosing any cleaning method, first check how the detergent will act on the material on an inconspicuous small area.

Next, wipe off any dust on the surface. Daniel Hatfield, Luxaflex brand manager, gave a simple piece of advice, "Close the slats and remove the dust with a cloth or soft cloth. You can also use a vacuum cleaner attachment set to the lowest level."

To avoid scratching or damaging the slats, use a lower suction or speed setting and use an upholstery attachment.

Step 2

If you notice grease stains or food residue on your kitchen blinds, a surface cleaning alone probably won't do the job of removing the dirt properly.

For Venetian blinds, use dishwashing detergent diluted in warm water. Gently wipe each slat with a damp cloth.

Step 3

Light, regular cleaning is ideal for blinds as horizontal slats can accumulate dust and dirt more easily than other types of surfaces. Ideally, you should wipe down your blinds weekly.
