How to protect fruit trees from rodents

In the fall, you need to fertilize and prune fruit trees, as well as protect them from pests and other rodents. They can significantly harm the seedlings and you won't get a bountiful harvest next season.

OBOZ.UA has found popular ways to avoid this. You need to prepare for a mouse raid in the winter now.

Pungent odor

Rodents have a very delicate sense of smell, so they will not approach the seedlings if they smell an unpleasant aroma. Oil, tar, ichthyol ointment, or Balsamic Linimen are perfect for this.

Wrap the tree trunk with nylon tights, burlap or other old cloth for about one meter. Then treat the trunk with pungent odor mixtures.

Sawdust

Spray sawdust with a chlorine-containing disinfectant and scatter it around the trees. But make sure to do this before the onset of hard frost.

You can also use cat litter. Rodents definitely don't like such odors.

Metal mesh

Make a fence around the trunk of a metal mesh or an ordinary bucket without a bottom and mice will definitely not be able to get to the tree. Bury the "fence" 2-3 centimeters into the soil.

Coriander

The smell of this plant can scare away mice. Place bunches of dry coriander sprigs around fruit trees and in the flower garden.

Such simple methods will prevent not only rodents but also hares from eating your trees.
