How to grow sweet table beets: one tip to get the best vegetable

Despite the fact that beets are a natural source of sugars and one of the sweetest vegetables, some people may find this root vegetable bitter in taste. This effect can occur due to certain features of growing the vegetable. And the problem can be easily fixed.

OBOZ.UA found out what exactly you need to feed beets with to get the sweetest possible fruit. It turned out that it's all about nitrogen. It should be applied to the beet bed when the young plants form the first few true leaves. We will tell you what fertilizers will be useful for this.

Organic fertilizers

The best organic sources of nitrogen are mullein and poultry manure. They will be most effective in the form of solutions and infusions. Green manure or green fertilizers will also work well.

Complex mineral fertilizers

If you prefer to use ready-made mineral mixtures to fertilize your garden, make sure that the product contains enough nitrogen. NPK fertilizers are best suited for spring fertilization, as they contain phosphorus and potassium, which are important for the development of beets.

Ammonia

This product is an aqueous solution of ammonia, so gardeners have long used it for nitrogen fertilization of the garden. Simply dissolve two and a half spoons of ammonia in a bucket of water and pour this mixture over the beet bed.

Urea

This substance is also known as carbamide and is widely used in agriculture to feed plants with nitrogen. It should be diluted at a concentration of 30 grams per bucket of water. This will be enough for a single spring watering, which will provide the beets with the amount of nitrogen necessary for the early stages of development.
