A female fruit fly can lay more than a hundred new eggs a day, which then hatch into white larvae that grow rapidly and begin to lay eggs as well. In fact, the reproduction process of these insects is continuous.

Drosophila have an unpleasant feature: their saliva contains enzymes that, when released, contribute to food spoilage.

An effective life hack

Step 1. Put pieces of fruit at the bottom of the glass - they are the most popular for Drosophila. Bananas, pears, peaches, apples, and even lemons will be useful - this will be your "bait".

Step 2. After laying the "bait" on the bottom of the glass, take a piece of paper and fold it into a cylinder, or "cap". The sharp side of the cylinder should be inserted into the glass. Tape the paper at the junction of the beaker so that the insects have no chance to escape. Thus, Drosophila will fly into the glass at the smell of fruit through the wide opening of the paper cap, but will not be able to fly out.

Step 3. After the glass is filled with insects, take it outside and release the flies. The procedure can be repeated several times.

There is also a more radical method: if you pour wine or compote into the glass, the drosophila will drown in the liquid.
