You can get rid of aphids without using chemicals

Aphids are a very small garden pest, but they can cause enormous damage. The insects eat the greenery from plants almost completely. It is difficult to collect it manually, because aphids run fast. They also reproduce very rapidly. And the pest's excretion, honeydew, contributes to the spread of fungal infections.

So the appearance of aphids in the garden is a real disaster. OBOZ.UA found out how to deal with it. Gardening experts have some tips on this subject.

Prevention

As with any other problem, it is easier to prevent the appearance of aphids than to remove them from your garden. To do this, you need to follow certain rules for sanitizing plants.

First of all, they need to be pruned in time. Remove all dead and damaged shoots, remove root shoots. All cuttings must be properly disposed of, because aphids like to settle in such branches.

It is also worth attracting insects to the garden that do not harm plants but feed on aphids. First of all, we are talking about ladybugs, of course. Also, mayflies and goldfish will do a good job. They will help solve the problem even if aphids have already appeared.

It is necessary to fight ants on the site. These insects feed on honeydew and literally graze aphids, protecting them from natural enemies. Under their supervision, the pest multiplies very quickly.

Planting aphid-repelling plants on the site will also be effective. Such plants are tansy and yarrow. As for garden crops and herbs, they include garlic, mint, fennel, and string.

Removing aphids

To get rid of aphids, you can buy ready-made chemicals that destroy this pest. But some home remedies can also help.

Decoction of tansy

Pour 1 kilogram of the herb with 10 liters of water and boil. Let the broth cool and strain it. Add a few tablespoons of laundry soap to the resulting liquid and spray the plants with the resulting solution.

Tobacco tincture

Pour one hundred grams of tobacco with 2-3 liters of boiling water and leave in a dark place for 2 days. After that, strain the tincture and dilute it with clean, cold water to make 10 liters of the product. Dissolve a few tablespoons of soap in the resulting liquid and spray the garden.

Tobacco and onion broth

Take 200 grams of tobacco and onion husks, pour 10 liters of water over them, bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low and leave to simmer for 2 hours. After that, add 200 grams of garlic to the very hot broth and let the liquid cool. Finally, strain the product and spray your area with it.

It is also important to wash off honeydew from plants in case of aphids. This will protect the plantings from the spread of sooty fungus.
