Homemade acidic products are suitable for cleaning the toilet

With the hard water that mostly flows from our taps, it's not easy to keep the toilet perfectly clean as various salts settle on its walls, forming ugly streaks. That's why the question of how to clean the toilet comes up every time you start cleaning.

OBOZREVATEL talks about ways to easily get rid of stains and plaque in the toilet bowl with the help of improvised means.

How to clean the toilet bowl effectively?

Regardless of the product you choose, you will need to use it effectively. To do this, there should be no excess water in the bowl.

  • If your tank is leaking, you will have to shut off the water and drain everything inside. If you are confident in its reliability, you can skip this step.
  • Push the water from the toilet into the pipe. This can be done with a plunger.
  • Next, the product should be applied to the entire inner surface of the bowl and left to act. Factory products are applied according to the instructions, while home products are applied at least for an hour.
  • Afterwards, the toilet should be thoroughly cleaned with a brush, the water should be opened if it was blocked, and the bowl should be rinsed several times.

Experts warn against cleaning the toilet with hard abrasive brushes, including metal ones. The scratches they leave behind will cause plaque to accumulate even faster. That is why you should choose products that can dissolve salts when cleaning the toilet.

Vinegar

One of the most effective products that overcomes limescale from hard water is vinegar or rather the acetic acid it contains. To clean the toilet, it is recommended to mix it with salt or baking soda. Take 1 cup of white or distilled vinegar and heat it to 40 degrees. Add 1 teaspoon of salt or baking soda to the warm liquid and dissolve it completely. For moderately soiled surfaces, it will be enough to simply apply the product and leave it to act; for visible stains, it is better to rub it in with a sponge. To get rid of particularly stubborn stains, you can leave the vinegar cleaner on overnight with the toilet lid on.

Citric acid

Another acid that works well against limescale. It can be used as a lotion. Dissolve a sachet of citric acid in a glass of water, moisten a strip of toilet paper with the product and attach it to the stain. After a few hours, rub the stain with a brush and rinse off the water.

Citric acid can also be poured into the toilet bowl in a dry form. Two sachets will be enough. Add 2 more to the water in the tank. After 3-4 hours, scrub the toilet with a brush and then rinse with acidified water from the tank.

Coke

The popular carbonated drink also contains a lot of acids, including phosphoric and citric, so housewives have long used it as a cleaning agent. You don't need to prepare a special cola liquid, just buy a 2-liter bottle and pour it into the toilet bowl so that the drink completely covers the entire surface. After 2-3 hours, clean the bowl from the inside and rinse as usual.
