Yulia PoteriankoLife
Natural wood can be affected by mold, but most of these infestations can be cleaned independently

Natural wood is naturally a favorable environment for mold growth. Therefore, if a wooden object, such as a piece of furniture, is exposed to high humidity for a long time, it can develop fungal damage over time, and it will need to be removed as soon as possible.

OBOZREVATEL has collected some life hacks on how to remove mold from wooden furniture. For this, you will need affordable and completely environmentally friendly ingredients.

Identify the type of mold

Several types of mold can affect wood. If you're dealing with black mold, it's best not to rely on your strength and seek professional help. This is the most dangerous and difficult type of mold to remove, and it needs to be dealt with using special products. In all other cases, you can do it yourself.

Start by protecting yourself and your home

Any mold removal work should be carried out in protective equipment. At the very least, you should wear gloves, goggles, and a protective mask or respirator to prevent fungal spores from entering your respiratory tract.

It is also necessary to thoroughly vacuum the infected piece of furniture to remove any particles that may become airborne. Ideally, this should be done with a vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter. Whenever possible, you should clean mold from wooden furniture outside. If this is not possible, place a plastic sheet under the object.

Wash the infected surface

To clean a moldy wooden surface, mix warm water with one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle. Shake the contents of the bottle well to mix, and spray the mixture onto the object to be cleaned. Afterward, scrub the moldy areas with a soft-bristled brush. An old toothbrush that you can throw away immediately will do the trick. Next, use a separate cloth to remove excess foam and liquid and dry the surface with a paper towel. This step may be sufficient if the mold has not penetrated deep into the wood.

Use a vinegar spray

White vinegar is quite effective against mold fungi. To prepare a spray based on it, mix vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle in a 1:1 ratio and spray the affected areas with this solution. Leave the product on for an hour. After that, use paper towels to collect the remaining liquid.
