Despite its durability, stainless steel requires careful maintenance

Stainless steel sinks have gained a lot of popularity due to their durability and ease of maintenance. However, the material from which such a sink is made still requires the right selection of products to keep it shiny.

OBOZ.UA figured out how to properly remove plaque and stains. And here are the products that will be really effective.

Vinegar

This food acid will help get rid of lime stains on the sink. Vinegar will also protect the material from darkening. To use it, just apply the right amount of white vinegar to a sponge, treat the surface with it and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off the residue with warm water.

Soda

It is safe to clean stainless steel with baking soda because it is a fairly mild abrasive that will not leave scratches if you do not rub too hard. You can apply baking soda either on a sponge or directly to the stained area. If you sprinkle the product on the stain, you can leave it on for a while or combine it with vinegar to get better results.

Starch

Another delicate abrasive that will clean stainless steel well and restore its shine is starch. You can use both potato and corn starch. The main thing is to rub without excessive pressure. Starch will remove even the most stubborn dirt.

Bleach

A chlorine-containing stain remover is a lifesaver for the most difficult cases. It also disinfects the surface well. The liquid is applied evenly to the entire sink because spot application can cause light spots. To kill all microorganisms, the bleach should be allowed to work for 15-30 minutes. Wipe the sink and rinse off the residue.

How to protect the sink from plaque and scratches

To prevent unwanted marks from appearing on the steel, make sure that no food bits or grease remain in it. That's why daily wiping with a sponge and dishwashing liquid will be a good idea if you have a steel sink.

You can protect stainless steel from scratches by not using harsh abrasives, such as scouring powders, etc. Avoid using metal brushes and scrapers too.

And, of course, don't forget about regular polishing. Ordinary vegetable oil can make the surface shine. Rub a couple of drops on the sink and it will shine like new until the next time you wash the dishes.
