Proper manual cleaning will help remove even stubborn stains on the carpet

Carpets and rugs should be cleaned at least once a year to keep them clean and looking new for longer. The best way to do this is with a special machine, but it doesn't make sense to keep such a bulky appliance in every home. You can also order professional cleaning with this machine. But it is also a good solution to clean the flooring regularly by hand.

OBOZREVATEL has collected the main life hacks from experts on how to do it easily and efficiently without spending too much time on it.

Refresh the carpet with baking soda

Cleaning the carpet with baking soda is an old trick that will help remove odors and absorb wet spots. Just sprinkle the product evenly over the surface, leave it overnight, and vacuum it up in the morning. The alkaline pH of the product will remove acid stains, and the mild abrasive texture will help remove dirt without damaging the fibers.

Remove grease stains with salt

To remove grease and oil stains, mix equal parts of salt and borax and rub the mixture into the stained area. Leave the product on for several hours. It will gradually absorb the fat particles. All that remains is to vacuum up the dry cleaner.

Remove stubborn stains with enzymes

Enzyme-based cleaners are commonly used to remove pet stains. It's not the most gentle option, but it can help get rid of stubborn stains. Choose the right product for the type of stain and use it according to the instructions. Remember to wear protective gloves and ventilate the room when working with enzymes.

Bleach with vinegar or hydrogen peroxide

A mild acid such as white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide can be used to lighten stained areas. To use vinegar, mix it in equal proportions with water, gently apply the liquid to the stain, wait 10-15 minutes, and then wipe off the residue with a paper towel or clean cloth. Such cleaning will help, in particular, to dissolve the remnants of soap or detergents from previous cleanings, which can form a grayish coating.

Hydrogen peroxide in pharmacy concentration can be used directly. As a powerful oxidizing agent, it can break down and dissolve organic compounds, stains and odors on a molecular level. For tough stains like blood, apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain, let it foam, and then blot the residue.

Use a steam cleaner

A steam cleaner is a good device for cleaning around the house. It removes even stubborn dirt and disinfects surfaces. The device will also cope with the carpet. Moreover, no additional chemicals are needed for such cleaning.

The best carpet cleaner

There is a large selection of carpet cleaners on the market, but experts advise avoiding their regular use and limiting them to plain water whenever possible. If the surface is noticeably dirty, use only specialized chemicals, not laundry or dishwashing detergents. Apply the foam with a soft brush in a circular motion, avoid waterlogging to avoid causing mold growth in the fibers, and absorb excess water with paper towels or a clean cloth. And be sure to dry the carpet well before using it again.
