How to care for finicky orchids in February and not "kill" the flower

Yulia PoteriankoLife
The orchid can be repotted in February, but under certain conditions

Experienced flowerpot owners know that they begin to wake up after winter as early as February. Especially if they are kept in bright rooms. This means that in the last month of winter, it's time to gradually adjust your flower care - increase the frequency of watering, and transplant some flowers.

But how to care for a delicate orchid so as not to harm it? OBOZ.UA has collected a few tips that will help guide the plant through this period of awakening.

Watering

Since the orchid suffers from too much watering and likes the substrate to dry out completely between water applications, you need to increase the amount of moisture for it very carefully. The best way to do this is through spraying. In addition to the winter watering regimen, give it a little extra water every few days. The warmer the apartment, the more often. The flower will receive additional water in a dosed manner through the leaves and aerial roots.

Transplanting

Take a closer look at the substrate in which the orchid is growing. If it seems to you that it has become denser, caked, you can transplant the flower in February. But do not do this if it is blooming at this time. Wait until the flowering is over, carefully remove the plant from the pot, remove any rotten or damaged roots if necessary, and place it in fresh soil. Choose only a special substrate for orchids. Conventional potting soil will be too dense and nutritious for the orchid.

Ventilation

The orchid will respond well to more frequent ventilation of the room where it grows. Open the window for a couple of minutes every day. But at the same time, remove the plant if it grows on this window. The flower should not suffer from cold air; it comes from the tropics and does not react well to cold.
