How to behave in the gym: etiquette rules

Gym etiquette rules

There are rules of etiquette in the gym as well, but unfortunately, few people follow them. When using the machines or participating in group workouts, it's essential to remember to respect others.

Often, during breaks after exercising, gym-goers like to sit down on the machines to rest. Here's why you shouldn't do this, and whether you can bring boys into the women's locker rooms - read the OBOZREVATEL article.

Rule 1

After completing a strength exercise and preparing to move on to the next one, always remember to return the machine to its original position. Assembling and disassembling equipment is part of the exercise. It's not the trainer's responsibility to disassemble the barbells after you.

Rule 2

While resting between exercises, you can stand or sit on benches or even on the floor. Avoid sitting on the machines to rest, as it may interfere with other people's workouts.

Rule 3

Even if you think you know the proper technique for all the exercises and are annoyed by someone on the next machine doing an approach incorrectly - like using incorrect form or improper breathing - refrain from giving unsolicited advice. Focus on your workout, as there are trainers on duty in the gym who can offer assistance and advice. The only exception is when incorrect exercise form could be harmful to someone's health.

Rule 4

If you choose to attend group classes, be on time. Gyms usually host fitness, yoga, stretching, and other classes. Arriving late means you'll miss the warm-up, which is a crucial part of your workout. Exercising with unwarmed muscles can lead to injuries.

Rule 5

Large mirrors in the gym may seem inviting for taking selfies, but they are not intended for this purpose. If you decide to take a picture of your reflection, remember that gym mirrors are there to help you maintain proper exercise technique. Make sure your selfie-taking doesn't disturb anyone.

Rule 6

If you come to the gym with a child, it's important not to disregard the rules regarding men's and women's locker rooms. Women often bring boys into the women's locker rooms. However, when a man brings a girl into the men's locker room, it raises concerns. Children over the age of 5 can change clothes independently. Boys should change in the men's locker room, and girls should use the women's locker room.

Rule 7

After finishing your exercise and wanting to wash off the sweat, remember that public showers in gyms are not the place for SPA treatments, shaving, waxing strips, or scrubs. At most, you should use shower gel. Save other grooming procedures for your home.
