What to use to remove stains on the sofa

It's not difficult to clean stains on a soiled sofa if you know a few effective life hacks. Old stains, penetrating deep into the fabric, can even cause an unpleasant odor in the home.

You don't have to buy expensive chemicals because there are several equally effective ingredients at hand. Read the OBOZREVATEL article on how to clean stains on sofas.

The basic rules

First of all, thoroughly vacuum the sofa, removing crumbs, dust, and other dirt. Do not use a brush on thin fabric; it is better to wipe the surface with a cloth or the soft side of a sponge.

When using any product, cleaning experts recommend that you first test it on an inconspicuous area of the fabric. Some ingredients can damage or lighten the surface of the sofa.

After cleaning, be sure to dry the sofa to prevent mold.

How to make your own detergent

Method 1. Soda and glycerin

The necessary ingredients:

  • soda
  • vinegar
  • glycerin
  • dishwashing detergent
  • warm water

Pour 1 liter of water into a small bowl and add 2 tablespoons of baking soda, 8 tablespoons of vinegar, 3 tablespoons of glycerin, and 4 tablespoons of dishwashing detergent. Mix the mixture thoroughly until all the ingredients are completely dissolved and apply it to the stains with a sponge.

You do not need to rinse it off immediately, the ingredients need time to work. Therefore, after an hour, you can rinse the sofa with a damp sponge. It is worth noting that this life hack is suitable for all types of surfaces, except leather and leatherette.

Method 2. Laundry soap

First, rub the laundry soap on a grater. You can use regular solid or liquid soap. Pour warm water, detergent, and soap into a container. Mix the ingredients until a foam forms and apply it to the contaminated areas. This method can be used on all surfaces.

Method 3. Baking soda and lemon

Dissolve baking soda and lemon juice in a 1:1 ratio in water and leave it on the surface of the sofa for a few minutes, then rinse it off with a sponge or brush. It is better not to use acid on leather and leatherette surfaces.

By the way, you can try to remove stubborn stains with medical alcohol. Read the article to learn how to do it safely and effectively.
