Cleans and disinfects: the ingenious trick for dirty kitchen boards

A cutting board is one of the key kitchen tools, and many people prefer wooden boards because they are durable and can last for a long time. But they need to be kept clean, because the board is constantly in contact with bacteria, but wood is not so easy to care for due to its porous structure.

The main advice, of course, is to wash the board with warm water and dish soap after each use. But OBOZ.UA has learned about a way to wash off stains from a wooden object and disinfect it properly at the same time. To do this, you will need ordinary hydrogen peroxide in a concentration of 3%, which can be bought at any pharmacy. Although it may seem unexpected to use this liquid for a cutting board, this technique will return your board to a completely new look and hygienic cleanliness in no time.

All you need to clean your board is a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide and a cloth or sponge. Take the object you want to disinfect and generously pour the peroxide over it. The product should cover the entire surface. It is better to wear gloves to avoid drying out your hands. Use a sponge or cloth to help spread the liquid over the surface of the board.

Almost immediately, the peroxide will begin to hiss and bubble. This means that it is working. Leave it for 5-7 minutes. When the process begins to subside, rinse the product off the board with hot water. To be sure, you should do this on both sides of the tool.

After washing, it is important to dry the wooden board thoroughly. Putting a wet cutting board in storage can lead to mold growth. Therefore, put it up, or better yet, hang it outdoors until it is completely dry.

But keep in mind that only peroxide in a pharmacy concentration of 3% can be used for dishwashing. Stronger solutions used to bleach hair or clean swimming pools are not suitable for everyday household tasks.
