Herring is one of the healthiest types of fish, which contains a lot of nutrients and vitamins. Experts recommend eating it for everyone. You can make appetizers and salads with it, and it can also be deliciously pickled.
Cook Svitlana shared a recipe for spicy pickled herring, which turns out to be very flavorful, on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- herring - 550 g
- water - 80-100 ml.
- onions - 2-3 pcs.
- apple cider vinegar - 40-50 ml.
- unrefined sunflower oil - 40-50 ml.
- salt - 1.5-2.5 tsp.
- sugar - 1 tsp.
- bay leaf - 1 pc.
- black peppercorns - 4-6 pcs.
- allspice - 1 pc.
Method of preparation:
1. Wash fish under running water, cut off the head and tail, gut it and wash it again.
2. Make an incision with a knife along the ridge and remove the skin. Rinse again with water.
3. Divide the fillet into two parts with your hands. Remove bones and cut into equal pieces.
4. Cut onion into thin half rings and put in a bowl.
5. Mix water with salt, sugar, pepper and bay leaf. Bring to a boil and then cool completely.
6. Mix the cold marinade with oil and apple cider vinegar.
7. Put the herring and onions in a glass dish in layers, pour the marinade over and leave in the refrigerator overnight (up to a day) under the lid.
