Cabbage with cracklings: a recipe for a hearty and budget-friendly dish

White cabbage can be sauerkraut, stewed, fried with onions and mushrooms, as well as with vegetables and meat. It goes well with fresh vegetables, herbs, and cereals.
Cook Victoria shared on Instagram a recipe for a delicious and satisfying filling of cabbage with couscous, bacon and fried onions.
Ingredients:
- sauerkraut - 0.5 kg
- fresh cabbage - 0.5 kg
- onion (large) - 1 pc.
- vegetable oil - 2 tbsp
- milk - 400 ml
- sour cream separator - 400 g
- egg - 1 pc.
- couscous - 60 g
- spices: salt, pepper, bay leaf
- cracklings, fried onions - for serving
Method of preparation:
1. Rinse the sauerkraut and boil until tender. Finely chop fresh cabbage, boil until tender. Cook the first and second cabbage separately. Drain the liquid in both cases. Fry the finely chopped large onion in butter.
2. Put two types of cabbage, bay leaf and fried onions in a non-stick container, pour a solution of milk with thick sour cream (if you don't have sour cream: 200 g of milk and 600 g of cream at least 30%), eggs, and couscous cereal.
3. All this should be stewed for at least 4 hours. Season the dish with salt and black pepper. Fry the bacon (finely chopped pork brisket) and onions separately. Put the cabbage on a plate, top with the roast and eat.
