Your orchid will be delighted: how to prepare orange fertiliser for lush flowering

Orange water for the orchid

Orchids need special care in winter. Stress, temperature changes, open windows and drafts can have a bad effect on the plant.

Experts suggest giving the orchid a "contrast shower" or sometimes dipping a transparent pot into a container of water. You can also prepare a fertiliser using orange peel, because after the New Year holidays, many people definitely have a supply of citrus fruits left over.

Orange for an orchid

The peels of oranges, lemons and tangerines are often used as fertiliser for indoor plants. Orchids love orange water. If you water it regularly, you can save even a half-dried orchid. It will have a good effect on the roots, leaves and flower stalks.

Peel one orange and grind the peels in a blender. You can do it by hand, but you should cut it into very small cubes.

Take a container of water. The water should not be too cold or hot, cool it down to room temperature. Steep the orange peels in the water for at least 24 hours. Then strain through cheesecloth or a strainer.

Do not rush to buy a sprayer, you will not need it. Put the transparent pot with the orchid in a container (you can use a basin or bowl) and pour the orange water on the roots. Experts advise leaving the orchid in the water for at least 10 minutes to "drink" and absorb nutrients.

There is a drug called ascorutin in the pharmacy. Orange water is its analogue. Ascorutin tablets are also used as a fertiliser at home. You should take the proportion of 2 tablets per 1 litre of water.

If you do not want to infuse the peels, use orange juice. You need very little of it - 5 g per 1 litre of water.
