They sat down at the royal table and began to eat: activists broke into the residence of Charles III and made demands

Activists break into the residence of Charles III in Edinburgh

Activists of the This Is Rigged organization broke into the residence of King Charles III of Great Britain in Edinburgh, Scotland. They sat down at the big royal table and had lunch, eating from plastic utensils and drinking tea from flasks.

The sovereign and his wife Camilla were not at home at the time. The Express reported on what the activists were demanding, and photos of the protesters' "tea party" appeared on the This Is Rigged page on X (formerly Twitter).

"This is a fake occupation of the royal dining room of the holyrood palace to steal their lunch. We are calling on the Scottish government to meet with us to discuss the introduction of community food centers in Scotland - give us a warm place to eat or we will find it anywhere... including the palace," the photo's description reads.

The photos show that activists have unfurled large posters with provocative slogans at the monarch's residence: "The people are stronger than the lord".

So, the protesters' demands are as follows:

  • Reduce food prices, in particular for infant formula, to the price level of March 2021.
  • Create a publicly funded community food center for every 500 families in Scotland.

One of the activists, 22-year-old student Josephine O'Connor, commented: "As the multiple crises we face continue to intensify, it is becoming increasingly clear that those in power are not coming to the rescue and that profits are once again taking precedence over people. Everything is in our hands... We need to speak out because this is our future."
