Priest Gborbu Wulomo from the Republic of Ghana, located in western Africa, married a 12-year-old girl, Naa Okromo, with whom he has an age difference of 51 years. The child's fate was chosen when she was 6. According to locals, this ritual is an ancient tradition.

According to it, a priest has to marry a virgin, which, as it turns out, is not so common in Ghana. According to the local The Daily Star, there are currently no such girls over the age of nine in Nungua.

The priest chose his bride when she was still very young. The marriage was only the first stage of the ceremony. The girl has to take part in a second traditional ceremony that is supposed to purify her.

"This rite will enable her to fulfill all the duties expected of her as the wife of Gborbu Wulomo, including the crucial role of childbirth," local media outlet Ablade TV Online reported.

However, after the public was outraged by such "machinations," the Gborbu Wulomo temple found an excuse in its defense: "She is still in school, she does not live with Gborbu Wulomo. We started a traditional marriage with Naa Okromo (12 years old) to ward off other men. When she is older, we will have the last rites."

It turned out that this tradition existed more than 300 years ago, but for some reason they decided to bring it back again. Kofi Frankwa II, a representative of the Nii Bortei temple, said: "Naa Yomo Ayemuade is a reincarnated woman who lived more than 300 years ago and returned to make sure that the sacred rituals of one of the deities that have not been performed for years can be fulfilled."
