"I lived in occupation for 5 months – it's not funny": new issue of "Diesel Show" about a family of Ukrainians and occupiers outraged the network
"Diesel Show" caught in a scandal

The comedy program "Diesel Show", which is broadcast on ICTV, got into a scandal because of an episode dedicated to a Ukrainian family in the territories temporarily occupied by Russia. The jokes of the comedians and the chosen topic hurt Ukrainians who have survived the occupation or have relatives and friends who are held captive in their homes.

We are talking about the 137th episode of the "Diesel Show" of December 15, 2023, which can be viewed on YouTube. Viewers shared their reactions, in particular, on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.

The story follows a Ukrainian family in the temporarily occupied territory preparing for the holidays. The father, played by Yevhen Gashenko, watches propaganda news with his son, while the mother, played by Victoria Bulitko, instructs her husband not to believe in the nonsense, because "he will go to get a Russian passport."

The actor responds: "I will go to get a Russian passport only if we run out of toilet paper." The audience laughed together, and the skit continued with St. Nicholas, who convinces the family that they are free people and Ukrainians, even though they live under occupation.

At this point, two terrorists enter the apartment, portrayed as clumsy, stupid alcoholics who can't handle their own weapons.

This scene obviously amused the audience, but it did not make laugh the part of audience, whose relatives live in fear, under repression, and without communication in the occupied territories, laugh. Ukrainians shared their thoughts and criticism on social media.

"I have the same dream that for some reason we are still under occupation and cannot leave anymore, and then I wake up and it takes me a couple of minutes to realize that I am not there. The people who stayed there are literally captives in their homes. "The "Diesel Show" is still cannibalistic bullshit," wrote one of the survivors.
