Neil Young

Neil Percival Young is a Canadian and American singer and songwriter.

Brief Biography

Neil Young was born on November 12, 1945 in Toronto, Canada.

He began his musical career in Winnipeg in the 1960s and then moved to Los Angeles, where he joined the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield.

With the launch of a solo career, often backed by the band Crazy Horse, he released such critically acclaimed albums as Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), After the Gold Rush (1970), Harvest (1972), On the Beach (1974) and Rust Never Sleeps (1979).

He was also a member of the band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, with whom he recorded the chart-topping album Déjà Vu in 1970.

Neil Young's career is characterized by his virtuoso guitar playing, deeply personal lyrics and high tenor. He also plays piano and harmonica on many albums, often combining folk, rock, country and other musical genres.

His electric guitar playing, especially in the band Crazy Horse, earned him the nickname "The Godfather of Grunge" and led to the recording of the 1995 album Mirror Ball with the band Pearl Jam.

Young, under the pseudonym Bernard Shakey, has directed or co-directed a number of films. He also contributed to the soundtracks for the films Philadelphia (1993) and Dead Man (1995).

Young has won several Grammy and Juno awards. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: in 1995 as a solo artist and in 1997 as a member of the band Buffalo Springfield.

In 2023, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Young 30th on its list of the "250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Young is also listed as one of the 100 Greatest Music Artists by Rolling Stone, and 21 of his albums and singles have been certified gold or platinum in the United States.

In 2006 Young was awarded the Order of Manitoba, and in 2009 he became an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Neil Young is married three times. Since 2018, he has been married to actress Daryl Hannah. Has three children.
