Jean Vensenovich Beleniuk - Ukrainian athlete, world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Jean Beleniuk was born in Kyiv, January 24, 1991.
He started wrestling at the age of nine.
In 2010 he won the second place at the World Junior Championship. The following year he again took part in the World Championships, taking third place, but recovered at the European Junior Championships, earning gold there.
In 2014 and 2016, Jean Beleniuk again represented Ukraine at the European Championships and won gold medals both times. In 2015 he took a break to participate in the European Games, where he won silver and second place. In the same year of 2015, Zhan Beleniuk became the world champion, defeating the reigning champion from Uzbekistan in Las Vegas.
In 2016, Jean Beleniuk competed at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where he took second place.
Is Zhan Beleniuk changing his citizenship?
In 2016, after his performance at the Olympics, Beleniuk said that Ukraine is not the right environment for training and preparing wrestlers.
As a result, many mass media spread rumors that Jean Beleniuk wanted to change his citizenship from Ukrainian to Russian. However, in a short time the athlete himself categorically denied these rumors, saying that he had never even considered such an idea.
Early elections to the Rada 2019
Jean Belenyuk took part in the extraordinary elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which were held in July 2019. Beleniuk ran for deputy of Ukraine from the party "Servant of the People", in the pre-election list of which he held the tenth position.
This has already managed to become the cause of a loud racist scandal, when one journalist accused the party "Servant of the People" that in this way politicians conduct an experiment on Ukraine.
