Igor Alexandrovich Yakovenko is a Russian journalist and blogger.
Brief biography
Born in Moscow, March 13, 1951. Studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Moscow State University (evening department). Worked as a projectionist, later as a mechanic of the Moscow subway. He taught philosophy at the Moscow Higher Party School.
In 1990 he was one of the founders of the Russian sociological service "Monitoring", which he headed in 1993.
In 1998 he was elected Secretary General of the Russian Union of Journalists. However, in 2008 he was prematurely resigned from this position on charges of using the Union's resources and capabilities in favor of private companies. Yakovenko himself stated that the real reason for his dismissal was his unwillingness to "serve the authorities."
In 2014, he was one of the signatories to a public statement demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, thereby liberating the occupied territories, and ending any support for terrorists in Donbass.
