Andy Ruiz was born September 11, 1989 in Mexico, in the city of Mexicali.

Since the childhood he became engaged in boxing.

During his amateur carrier Andy Ruiz had 110 fights in total, but lost only five times.

The first gold medal Ruiz got in 2005, taking the first place on Mexican junior championships. And two years later debuted in the junior class of the same championship and took two gold medals in a row, in 2007 and 2008.

At the age of 19 Andy Ruiz entered the professional ring for the first time. In his first fight he won by knockout, knocking out his opponent in the first round.

His first serious opponent was Joe Hanks, then undefeated American, who met him in Macau, 2013, and knocked him out in the fourth round, capturing the WBO Inter-Continental light-welterweight title.

Andy Ruiz confidently continued his career until 2016, earning new titles while reaffirming and defending old belts. However, when Tyson Fury voluntarily relinquished his WBO world title in 2016, Andy Ruiz stepped into the ring against Joseph Parker in hopes of gaining the belt.

Andy Ruiz lost his fight against Joseph Parker by decision of the judges. The defeat let the boxer down badly, he didn't come to the ring for more than a year after this unfortunate fight.

However, unexpectedly for everyone, Andy Ruiz won by TKO in the seventh round. The rematch is scheduled for December 2019 in Riyadh.

  • Andy Ruiz - Sergey Lyakhovich. The fight against the Belarusian former world champion took place in 2014. The fight lasted a full ten rounds and in the end the judges awarded the victory to Ruiz.
